Mr. Paine's practice focuses on white-collar defense, regulatory enforcement matters, and complex civil litigation.
Mr. Paine has extensive experience representing domestic and multinational corporations and business executives in regulatory and criminal investigations involving allegations of securities fraud, accounting fraud, insider trading, money laundering, and violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
Mr. Paine was a former Assistant U.S. Attorney and Deputy Chief of Appeals in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York. He is recognized as a leading white-collar defense and trial lawyer by The National Law Journal, Chambers USA, The Legal 500, The Best Lawyers in America, and New York Super Lawyers. He has also been named "Most Valuable Practitioner" in White-Collar Defense by Law360.
Mr. Paine is very active in social, political, and community affairs. He has previously served as co-chair of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund Board of Directors, director of the Legal Aid Society, and general counsel to the New York Democratic Party.
